Rolling Stones Exhibition unveiled at Zozimus Gallery.
A large gathering attended the official opening of ‘Charlie is my Darling’ by Niall Stokes, Editor of Hotpress Magazine at Gallery Zozimus, 56 Francis Street, Dublin 8 today (Thursday 7th March). ‘Charlie is my Darling’ is a photographic exhibition of the Rolling Stones - Ireland 1965 from the Lensmen Collection will continue at the Zozimus until Saturday 23rd March next. Also included will be a selection of pictures depicting life in Ireland the 1950s and 1960s.
The Exhibition at Gallery Zozimus includes pictures of the Rolling Stones in their original line-up as they started their career in concert in Dublin and Belfast. This visit also coincided with the band’s release of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” hit which soared to # 1 on the charts in Ireland, England and USA, and became the international anthem of an entire generation. The exhibition includes pictures of the Stones as a group – Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Brian Jones and Bill Wyman as well as selected individual shots.
‘Airport Bus 1’, the highlight of the exhibition at Gallery Zozimus, was chosen as the front cover for a new DVD / Blu-rays issued to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Rolling Stones. Other photographs from the archive were included in the film The Rolling Stones Charlie is my Darling Ireland 1965 - by ABKCO Films, a meticulously restored version of this first-ever, legendary, but never released film which was premiered in the New York Film Festival last November
Vincent Kelly, Director of Gallery Zozimus, in speaking at the opening, said: “These Images are Lensmen works of art. Without culturally historic photographs, our past and our culture would be lost. We are very grateful to Sean Walsh and Susan Kennedy for working with Gallery Zozimus to put this great collection together and so enable us to share them with a greater audience.
Gallery Zozimus is open from Monday – Friday, 10.00am – 5.30pm
