Joachim Murat (1767-1815) French soldier. Created king of Naples in 1808. He married Napoleon Bonaparte's sister Caroline. He contributed to victories at Marengo, Austerlitz, Jena and Eylau. After Napoleon's final defeat, he was court-martialled and shot.
