Sarel Celliers belonged, with Andries Potgieter and Paul Kruger (then 10 years old) to the trek that occupied the country between the Orange and Vet Rivers. Numbering 40 men only they succeeded in beating off an attack of a strong army of Moselekatse's Matabele, who were in Nov 1837 for ever driven beyond the Limpopo.
