The picture of a negro, who was brought to Holland, when only a boy of 8. Mr James van Goch, a director of the East India Company, had him educated. In 1742 he took his degree as D.A. at Leyden, on a dissertation in which he defended slavery as not being contradictory to the principles of Christianity.
