Coracle fishermen on the River Severn near Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. The coracle is a small one-person boat, originally of animal skin stretched over a wooden frame. In Britain, it has been in use for more than 2,000 years and there are still a few people licensed to use them for salmon and sea-trout fishing in Wales. From 'Scenes in England' by the Rev. Isaac Taylor, London, 1822. Hand-coloured engraving.
