Antoine-Laurent Jussieu (1748-1836), French botanist born in Lyon .Nephew of the botanist Bernard de Jussieu. He studied medicine and graduated in 1770. He was professor of botany at the Jardin des Plantes from 1770-1826 and his classification of many of the the plant families is still used. From 'The Vegetable World', by Louis Figuier.
