William II called Rufus (the Red) (1056-1100), second surviving son of William I , king of England from 1087. Cruel and rapacious, he was an unpopular monarch. He was killed by an arrow at Brokenhurst in the New Forest. From 'The Imperial History of England' by Theophilus Camden (London, 1832). Engraving.
