Lord John Russell shown campaigning for abolition of the Corn Laws. Between 1815 and 1846 Corn Laws kept corn prices high to protect farmers from foreign competition. The poor suffered from the high price of bread. Repealed in 1846. Cartoon From 'Punch', London, January 1846.
