Barmen-Elberfeld (now Wuppertal), Germany, electric overhead monorail, 1901. This the world's first, and oldest still operating, overhead monorail passenger transport system was designed by the German engineer Eugen Langen (1833-1895), and was opened to the public on 1 March 1901.
