Dionysius Lardner (1793-1859) Irish-born scientific writer. Professor of natural philosophy and astronomy at London University (University College). From 1840-1845 he lectured in USA and Cuba. He then returned to Europe and settled in Paris. Author of the 'Cabinet Cyclopaedia' (London, 1849). From a print after Daniel Maclise (1806-1870) Irish for Fraser's Magazine (London, 1830-1838).
