Table Clock. Jan van Ceulen, The Hague c 1700-1725. Oak veneered with tortoiseshell, silver, brass and fabric. This clock not only tells the time, it also gives the date and phases of the sun and the moon. It has a movement with nine bells that can play ten melodies. In the early 18th century a timepiece with so many different functions was still a rare and precious object.
