Penelope and her loom. In Ancient Greek legend wife of Ulysses, mother of Telemachus and an example of domestic virtue. When besieged by suitors during Ulysses long absence, she promised them a decision when her piece of work was complete. She wove all day, and sat up with her ladies overnight undoing her labours. Wood engraving 1886.
