Shiva holds the drum, associated with sound and energy, in his upper right hand the flame in his upper left hand, balancing his roles as creator and destroyer. His lower right hand in abhaya mudra offers reassurance, while his lower left suggests salvation through worship. He tramples on Apasmara, the demon of ignorance.
