Detail from the façade from the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, more commonly called the 'Duomo'. Florence, Italy. Started in 1296 based on Arnolfo di Cambio's design, but was not complete until 1436 when Filippo Brunelleschi engineered the dome. One of Italy's largest churches. The current façade was designed by Emilio De Fabris in 1871 and was completed in 1887. The original, incomplete façade was dismantled in 1588. The entire façade is dedicated to Christ's mother.
