Hans Sloane (1660-1753) Irish-born collector and physician. Gifted the Chelsea Physick Garden, established on his estate at Chelsea, London, to the Apothecaries Company. President of the Royal Society 1727-1741. His collection formed the basis of the British Museum. From 'The Naturalist's Library' edited by William Jardine (Edinburgh and London 1839-1854). Engraving.
