Wood to metal. While myths talk of Medusa turning things to stone and Midas turning things to gold, this ancient wood has been turned to copper. It comes from the island of Cyprus, which gets its name from Kuprios, the Greek word for copper, which has been mined for thousands of years. After being buried in the mine for more than 2,300 years, much of the wood in this pit has been replaced with metallic copper.
