Prometheus Bound (c1640-1645). Greek mythology. Prometheus, one of the Titans, stole fire from Haephaestus for benefit of mankind. Chained by Zeus (principal god) to Mount Caucasus, by day Eagle pecked his liver which regenerated overnight. Released by Hercules (Heracles/Herakles). Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678) Flemish painter.
