Lifeboat in the livery of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in heavy seas returning from a rescue mission. Founded in 1824 by William Hillary (1771-1847) as the National Institution for the preservation of life from shipwreck' the organisation is still responsible for the lifeboat service round the British coast and raises its funds by voluntary contributions.
