Rathbourne Candles 500th Anniversary. (R88)..1988..07.10.1988..10.07.1988..7th October 1988..Today Rathbourne Candles celebrated 500 years in Business. The company was set up by master chandler William Rathbourne in 1488, at Winetavern Street, Dublin. Before the advent of electricity, Rathbourne Candles had a contract with Dublin City Council for providing the candles for public street lighting. With the aquisition of Lalor Candles in 1910, rathbournes became the largest supplier of church candles in the state. The company is still triving today in its premises at East Wall, Dublin.
