David Brewster (1781-1868) Scottish physicist Brewster was editor of the 'Edinburgh Magazine', 1802 and the 'Edinburgh Encyclopaedia', 1808. His scientific work was mainly in the field of optics. He invented the kaleidoscope, studied polarised light, and established a new discipline of optical mineralogy. From 'The Illustrated London News', (London, 1868). Wood engraving.
