Thurles Sugar Workers Protest..1986..16.01.1986..01.16.1986..16th January 1986..After a rationionalisation plan was invoked the Irish Sugar Company which had already closed the sugar factory at Tuam now turned its attention to the factory at Thurles. The soon to be affected workers staged a protest against the cuts at the headquarters of The Sugar Company at Earlsfort Terrace,Dublin..The workers were supported by trade union officials and had much cross party support from Dail Eireann and The Seanad.
