Silver Casket by Johannes Schiotling and Neoclassical silver in Amsterdam. Amsterdam was the most important centre of silver smithing in the Netherlands during the Neoclassical period. Swedish born Schiotling was one of the leading silversmiths of this time. Following his training in Goteborg, he became a master silversmith in Amsterdam in 1762. Although he initially worked in Rococo style, he soon mastered the Neoclassical idiom.
